The first step of your Science Fair Project is to pick a topic. Here are some tips:
- What are you curious about?
Does water boil faster at the top of a mountain? Is there an app that tracks when I should brush my teeth? How can I build a better mousetrap?
- Once you've figured out your question, narrow it down. How could you create an experiment that would test your specific question? For example, you might boil water at the ocean and boil water at the top of a mountain to see if the water boils more quickly, depending on where you’re located.
- See if anyone else has done a similar experiment, and if they have, read about what they did and what they found. You may want to repeat the same experiment to verify the results, or you may want to create a whole new experiment.
- Keep it simple. Experiments do not have to be elaborate, expensive or take a lot of time. Avoid experiments that involve animal or human testing or hazardous materials.
